WKPZ Shareholder Richard Kaplan and Associate Tanya Garrison successfully defend top executive's severance package.
In a published opinion, Weycer Kaplan's trial and appellate team were successful through the Texas Supreme Court in defending the exempt nature of a top executive's severance pay. When a former CEO of a publicly traded corporation did not renew his contract, he was entitled to a severance package including significant severance pay. However, a prior judgment creditor attempted to garnish that pay in satisfaction of previous corporate debt. Mr. Kaplan and Ms. Garrison successfully dissolved the writ of garnishment and defended the exempt nature of the pay at the 14th Court of Appeals. This September, the Texas Supreme Court denied the creditor's petition for review, in essence affirming the decision of the 14th Court. To read the opinion, click on the link below.
